In the later years of high school, most teens start to become pretty confused about their life, which is understandable. It can be scary to think about the future and being a real, actual adult. Sometimes you just need to slow down and learn the lessons as they come.
Here are the 8 things I would’ve liked to know before I graduated:
1. Nothing Is As Serious As It Seems
Sometimes, things that happen in high school seem like life or death, but they actually aren’t.
2. You’ll Forget That Person Eventually
Your first teen love can feel like the strongest emotion you’ve ever experienced, but the pain of your first breakup will fade, eventually.
3. High School Is Important, But Not For the Reason You Think
High school teachers will make it seem like your grades in high school are of the most importance. Grades matter, but high school is also the time where you develop study and research habits that can benefit you for the next step in your journey.
4. Don’t Cling Too Tightly to High School Friends
You’ll learn over time that real friends will stay close without forcing it.
5. Your Mistakes Still Have Consequences
Some teens think that mistakes made when you’re young won’t have consequences in the future. Remember, in the age of the internet, everything is permanent.
6. Your First Time Can Be However You Want it to Be
Just because you have sex with someone doesn’t mean they’re your one true love, nor should you choose to have sex with just anyone. Your virginity and how you lose it is your choice.
7. Stay Away From People who Aren’t Good For You
That guy or girl you love against your better judgement is never going to “change for you”, like they say.
8. The Best Time to Save Money is Now
In high school, you have your parents’ roof over your head, and their food on your table. There’s never going to be a time when you can save as much money as you are now.
